GENDER AND FEMINIST STUDIES
Chapter One Chapters
NGN 7000

Background of the Study

Celebrities have long played a significant role in shaping public perceptions and societal norms. In recent years, many celebrities have become vocal advocates for feminist causes, using their platforms to endorse gender equality, women's rights, and the empowerment of women. This trend has gained traction in Nigeria, particularly in Abuja, where the entertainment industry is a major part of the cultural fabric. Celebrities who endorse feminist ideologies, particularly toxic feminism, can have a significant influence on societal attitudes toward marriage, gender roles, and single motherhood.

This study will explore the influence of celebrity feminist endorsements on marital expectations and the rise of single motherhood, focusing on the entertainment industry in Abuja. The research will examine how the public’s perceptions of marriage and family life are influenced by the feminist views expressed by celebrities, particularly in relation to marital fidelity and the normalization of single motherhood.

Statement of the Problem

While the impact of celebrity endorsements on social issues is well-documented, the specific influence of feminist endorsements on marital expectations and single motherhood in Abuja remains under-explored. Significance of the Study

This study is significant because it examines the powerful role that celebrities play in shaping societal norms, particularly in the context of feminist ideologies and family dynamics. Understanding how celebrity endorsements influence public perceptions of marriage and single motherhood will help gender advocates, social researchers, and policymakers better address the impact of public figures on societal values.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

This study will focus on celebrity feminist endorsements within the Abuja entertainment industry and their impact on marital expectations and single motherhood. The research will be limited to the entertainment industry and will not address other sectors or social media platforms. It will also not explore celebrity endorsements outside of the feminist context.
